Morphogenetic typification of pseudokarst in Czechoslovakia

Jan Vítek

The author treats of the various interpretations of pseudokarst by different authors and comes to the conclusion that the most important criterion for the systematization of pseudokarst phenomena is both the genesis and the morphology. From this point of view he suggests new typification of these phenomena according to their dimensions, as follows: macroforms (canyons, gorges, rock cities, etc.) mesoforms (different types of caves, sinkholes, some rock forms such as mushroom rocks, larger rock openings), and microforms (rock cavities including the type, rock niches, honeycomb rocks, lapies, weather pits, small rock perforations). Individual types are documented on examples from some locality in Czechoslovakia.
