The Use of Man-Made Satellites of the Earth in Meteorology

In the presented article, the authors set out a survey of the meteorological satellites which have been launched up to now according to different programmes. They come to the conclusion that the development and the trials of the first-stage variants has been almost finished, and that recently we are entering the stage of the primary use of satellites in synoptic and aereal and nautical meteorology. A development of new systems and putting them into practical use is to be expected but the old need of practical meteorology - for at least basic information about the weather situation over uninhabited regions and the oceans - is being secured nowadays, not only from time to time but mostly every day. This fact has a great importance for the current weather forecast.
