A Schematic Map of Typification of Banks of the Projected Water Reservoir
The present map is the first attempt at typification of banks of the projected water reservoirs. A valley dam has been planned on the upper course of the Oslava river in the Bohemo-Moravian Uplands in the district of Velké Meziříčí. Experiences secured during years of careful observations of changes taking place in the flooded area of the Kníníčky and Orava dams, the author's visit to the large water dams in USSR, Cimljanskaja and Rybinskaja, and finally thorough studies of geological, geomorphological and hydrometeorological conditions prevailing in the area of the planned dam - that all enables the author to foretell the future development of the banks and to divide than into individual characteristic types. He distinguishes five different basic types of banks of the future dam: abrasive bank, abrasive-slide bank, abrasive-cone bank, accumulative bank, and neutral bank. The present map may prove useful for designers partaking in the projection of communications and other installations in the environment of the dam. Experiences secured during the construction of other dams showed that the usual retreat of banks may cause considerable demage to buildings if situated too close to the margin of the bank slope.
