Advantages and disadvantages of the new method of teaching geography at Czechoslovak schools

Jaromír Demek, Jiří Machyček, Miloš Drápal

The authors describe new education programmes and text books of geography applied at Czechoslovak grammar schools and secondary schools. The altered system of teaching geography is expected to: 1. minimize the difference between which is called the scientific geography and geography taught at schools; 2. decrease the volume of descriptive geography (especially in regional geography); 3. encourage the activity of pupils; 4. increase the professional level of teachers of geography.
