The Cryoplanation Terraces in the Territory of the Velký Špičák in the Českomoravská Vrchovina (Bohemian-Moravian Uplands)

Stanislav Horník

The author presents in his paper the results of his study of the slope terraces and summit flats on the gneisses of the Velký Špičák in the Českomoravská vrchovina [(Bohemian-Moravian Uplands). The territory borders upon the edge of the granite massif which has influenced the mineral associations of the present metamorphosed rocks. It has even caused their migmatitization. The author takes over the basic nomenclature from the publication of J. Demek (1969). He describes selected cryoplanation terraces and their parts. He gives a characterization of local frost-riven cliffs and frost-riven scarps, he describes the sediments on the flats including the soil explanatory borings. He evaluates the relation of the cryoplanation terraces to the geological structure and he describes the active part of cryogenetic forms in their genesis. As favourable for their origin he considers also the deposition conditions, tectonics and character of the weathered local parragneisses. In the locality we can conceive quite concretely the developmental stages of cryoplanation terraces, and it is also possible to follow other interesting cryogenetic phenomena under the natural woody growths of the locality.
