International Geographical Congress in Stockholm
As member of the congress, the author gives a concise information on its progress, the number of delegates from different countries, the number of reports given in all sections and committees. He relates in more detail those that are - according to his opinion - most interesting. The topic of a majority of reports were regional variations of most different geographical phenomena and problems. Much rarer were reports in which partial results had been arranged to form more general theses, or which marked a certain progress in methodology. Author considers as defect that in no section any summary report was given that would characterize and estimate the present state of investigation, and indicate its future tasks. Only few reports were given on the state of a respective partial scientific branch of a respective country. Since the section of regional geography had not been re-established, no real report was given treating of geographical monography, in its true sense. The synthetic nature of geography was discussed only theoretically, the fact stated with regret. On the contrary, a progress was made in concentrating the activity of the congress into commissions in which was discussed 30 % of all congress papers. In the conclusion, the author estimates the approach of the Czechoslovak delegation and suggest, consequently, that next time delegates should be better prepared for any future congress of this kind.
